From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The antagonist then settled his liabilities and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires revenge.
- Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to head to the northern region in search of the traitor.
Future Episodes
From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.
