Coralie Fargeat's daring satire tackles the demanding standards for women's appearance and the feared consequences of growing older. This Creepy Thriller

Scott Derrickson's locked-room horror remains effective even without a follow-up. Set in the late 70s in Denver, a series of kidnappings has made the local kids frightened. Once Finney is taken by the villain and imprisoned in a cellar, he dreads the worst. But the old telephone in the room continues to ring, with spooky callers offering help, as the intuitive nightmares of his sister Gwen might rescue him. A solid creepfest. Saturday 11 October, 10.50pm, the Film4 channel

The Tammy Faye Biopic

In the conflict between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for greed in Showalter's delightfully tacky film adaptation of the disgraced TV preacher and her felon spouse. The actor acts as the corrupt Bakker, who states initially, asserting religious justification for riches. The couple commence monetising the people's spiritual convictions. It's a riot of tacky decor, overdone appearance and bad faith, though the lead actress achieves to present the character with compassion. October 14th, late night, on Film4
